How Much Fat Should You Be Eating?
The ratio of fat vs protein vs carb is absolutely crucial in order for the Low Carb High Fat lifestyle to work for you. I highly recommend that you use a Keto Calculator to calculate your daily requirements (Go to the keto calculator here) and enter these numbers into an app called My Fitness Pal which you can track what you are eating on (Go to My Fitness Pal here). Doing this and looking at your nutrition breakdown for the day will show you your accuracy pretty quickly and give you a feel for the lifestyle. Yes, you may need to get a little tech savvy … but half an hour spent setting this up is really valuable to assure yourself that you’re on the right track.
As a rule of thumb, you should be sticking to the following ratios:
Calories From Fat : 75%
Calories From Protein : 25%
Calories From Carbs : 5%
If you have weight to lose, have diabetes or any other health concerns your carb intake should be less than 25g per day even if this is less than 5% of your daily recommendations.
Below you will find some screen dumps of the My Fitness Pal app so you get an idea of how useful a tool this is.
